Where can I begin? Throughout the past two summers my time has been spent galavanting around my home base of Miami. There has been no one more informed, more fun, more interesting and more talkative to spend those summers with than my partner in crime -- Melissa Valdes :). Not only is she my partner in crime, she is my boyfriend's younger sister. Funny thing in Cuban families, the female roles in a man's life usually HATE who they bring around. But not Mel, she welcomed me into the family with open arms. The very first time we met was for a college graduation party. We did not separate the entire night. Spoke...and drank...for hours. Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was the atmosphere, but she became my sister in law (SIL) in a matter of hours.
I finally graduate college two years later and am able to spend all the time in the world with this Meli Mel character. I am so excited! Then she drops a bomb on me that she is going to Brasil for two months. Shit. I lost my SIL/PIC/NFL. For those of you playing along at home, NFL = nigga fo lyf. Oh well. She is out on the other side of the world being waited on hand and foot! While I'm here, recovering from yet again another surgery. I need to start living vicariously through Mel. I'm fine! No te preocupes! I will probably start my internship within the next week or two :).
I read your blog and it is beautiful. I heard about the soldier and word around this Cuban family is that you fell in love. How rumors travel quickly and falsely. I am so happy you're having such a wonderful time...and I can't wait to hear all about Rio! I saw the pic you uploaded either on Twitter or Facebook of your breakfast. It looked delicioso! You would not believe the night we had last night. We're all sleeping in Aimee's house and all of a sudden, 3:18 in the morning, we hear "Aimee!! Aimee!! Me cai!!" We all run out and Mami had fallen. Pops ran so quickly he knees gave out and he face planted. So Mami fell, Joey ran to through up, Pops fell and later went to lift Mami off the ground then fainted. It was terrible. She's fine, didn't break anything. Just some blood on her leg. She was screaming as though she had broken a hip. I couldn't sleep after that. Traumatized. So this morning we wake up, are eating breakfast, and in comes Adrian! He had an asthma attack at school today. Went to the doctor and was finally diagnosed with asthma. I need to find a new family lol. Poor things, our little chickens (Mami and Adrian) are sleeping soundly now.
So yeah, not an easy 12 hours. Hope your day is better than ours! We miss you and will see you before you know it!
